Cape Town City Hall Video Mapping – Festive Lights 2016 at Grand Parade

The team from Cape Lasers was called on to put on a 3D projection mapping show for the festival of lights 2016. The show broke the record for the largest architectural video mapping show to held on the African continent, with a projection surface of 65 meters wide.

The 2016 Cape Town Festival of Lights event took place on Sunday 4 December on the Grand Parade in front of the City Hall and included a line-up of acts including DJ Black Coffee and many more. The event climaxed with the 3D projection mapping show that had the audience actively participating, from joining in the staring count down sequence to the final virtual firework display approximately 6 minutes later.  During the show they were enthralled with architectural light sequences, spectacular wildlife and environmental footage, interviews with young Capetonian entrepreneurs all to an African themed sound track.  The Cape Town City Hall was a fitting canvas on which to creatively display the dual themes of the event, “Let’s Get on with It Cape Town” and “City of Ideas”.

The show was created and produced Cape Lasers’ Fabian Humphry who coordinated the show, and called on a cross functional team to handle various aspects.
