Laser Projections Light Up Johannesburg Landmarks

We recently completed a large-scale projection campaign across multiple landmarks in Johannesburg and Sandton. The client needed high-impact visibility for their brand awareness campaign and contacted us to handle the technical execution and logistics.

Project Overview

The brief called for projecting branded content onto several prominent buildings across the city. We assembled a team of projection specialists and deployed our mobile generators to each location. All projections were executed without rehearsals or advance technical preparation—each site was set up and calibrated on location.

Activists lit up Johannesburg’s skyline with towering nighttime building projections ahead of the historic 2025 G20 Summit, calling out spiraling debt, soaring climate damages, and deepening inequality, and urging world leaders to deliver bold debt reform and climate financing on Wednesday, Nov. 19 2025 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Technical Approach

We used high-brightness laser projectors equipped with ultra-long throw lenses. Each location required specific throw ratio calculations to account for distance, building height, and architectural features. The projectors needed to deliver clear, bright images on building facades from significant distances.

Content formatting was developed specifically for each building’s architecture. Windows, surface materials, and structural elements all affect how projected content displays, so we worked closely with the client to ensure their branding and messaging appeared cleanly on each facade.

Execution

This type of guerrilla-style projection work requires both technical precision and operational flexibility. Our team has significant experience with mobile projection setups and the variables that come with projecting onto urban architecture.

We maintain the brightest projection equipment available in the region, which allows us to work with buildings of any size and at the distances these projects typically require.

The client was pleased with the results, and the campaign achieved the visibility they were looking for across the Johannesburg area.
